Six weeks ago when I entered my first Safer at Home order, I said that I would base my decisions on expert medical advice and the scientific data. We have done so and will continue to do so.
Data is analyzed daily by doctors with decades of combined experience in the specialties of public health and infectious diseases. It was these doctors who informed the Back to Business Plan, including the conditions to enter a new phase, the activities allowed in each phase, and the protocols for each business sector. These same doctors will evaluate scientifically the data each day to determine any progress or regression we experience as we move forward.
These doctors opined that Memphis and Shelby County were ready to enter Phase 1 yesterday. Dr. McCullers detailed his analysis at our Friday press conference. Dr. McCullers serves as Dunavant Professor and Chair, Department of Pediatrics, Senior Executive Associate Dean of Clinical Affairs, Chief Operating Officer, College of Medicine, The University of Tennessee Health Science Center; Pediatrician-in-Chief, Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital
